2 oz bourbon
2 oz Ginger Mule Mix
A few drops black food coloring (to color preference)
2 dashes Tabasco (optional, for a spicier mule)
1/2 lime, flesh scooped out
3/4 oz spirit that's 100 proof or higher, for the flame
Shake the bourbon, mix, and coloring with ice, then strain over fresh ice. Float the hollowed lime half on top, fill it with the high-proof spirit, and light it with a match. Blow it out before anyone takes a sip.
Skipping the bourbon? Swap in a non-alcoholic bourbon, same amount. The drink stays just as dark and just as gingery. Skip the flame, since it only burns with alcohol, and garnish with a lime wheel instead.
Hosting a crowd? For eight drinks, stir 2 cups bourbon and 1 bottle Ginger Mule Mix in a pitcher with the coloring and keep it cold. Pour over ice in each glass, then light the limes one at a time when everyone's watching.
